Monday 29th June-Wednesday 1st July Sleeping Easy & Early Morning Navigating!

Morning…well it was a bit of a shock to rise and shine this morning! I had such a GOOD weekend after the Gig on the Green…my back was just beginning to shout at the amount of dancing and standing up I had done, my voice was beginning to whisper at the amount of loud singing I had sung and my tummy was beginning to get jittery at the amount of alcohol I had consumed…now hopefully follows a week of abstaining and recovery, if I can muster up some self control!

It’s Tuesday. Here starts ten days of worry and little sleep as my son and his girlfriend go to Egypt, which after the recent Tunisian terror attack is a concern for me, a worrying mum! Egypt appears to be on high alert from terrorism and is coloured red on the danger maps, so we have had several hours of wondering what best to do.

I have never been to Egypt, so can’t judge what it might be like, but thankfully Sharm el Sheikh has had security increased and on looking into it more deeply my husband seems convinced it is as safe as it can be. Thankfully my son and his girlfriend have cancelled the trip to the desert riding camels, as apparently there is a risk of kidnapping in these areas. Hoping they have a wonderful time and stay very safe.

I have been given my instructions on him leaving, which is to water the grass seed he has sown and it looks like it will need it, as it is going to be hot, hot, hot here! He obviously didn’t read the instructions which said ‘don’t sow seed during a heat wave’!

HURRAH..Son and girlfriend have arrived safely and he says their hotel is UNBELIEVABLE…presuming the capital letters mean he’s happy with the hotel they are staying in which is called Maritim Jolie Ville Golf & Resort. and my capital letters are because I’m happy he’s reached his destination without any hiccups!

Love it that you go and water the new grass seed and seconds after the heavens open and it pours with rain!

It’s Wednesday. I went to sleep easy in the knowledge that they had arrived safely in Egypt, but mid sleep was faced with a bright light. I thought perhaps my time had come but NO, husband came to bed and chose to shine a bright torch on his sleeping wife’s face!

I decided to take my early morning wake up very easy this morning, but as I drink my tea I am faced with a silent husband and a chatty Sat Nav woman saying “turn next left.” I ask “are you going somewhere?” and his reply is “you are so sarcastic!” Me? Apparently he was testing his updated version of his Sat Nav…lovely to listen to her interesting dulcet tones, instead of his!

Friday 26th-Sunday 28th June Pirates & Gig On The Green!

Morning…today although the weather forecast is sunny I will be sporting black trousers, stripy t-shirt, waistcoat, sash, black hat and eye patch! This is not because one eye is struggling more with hay fever than the other, but because it is Pirate dress up day for dads and lads in school.

pirate day

I will be leading the ‘dads’ and kids in an on mass hornpipe dance later in the grounds and must watch what words come out of my mouth!

Dancer Friend-OMG ..you are actually LEADING a dance!

Me- yes..I might need a few tips on describing steps! We did the grapevine last year and one of the dad asked if the feet needed to go behind or in front…apparently I said “it doesn’t matter which way you want to do it, Mrs ***** likes to go in front but I like to go behind!”…oopsie…I was totally oblivious to what I had said, whilst those around me sniggered and I wondered why!

It’s Saturday. I have never spotted ageing pirates wearing an eye patch over one eye with a white stick, but I would have needed one as completely blind when wearing one!

pirate face

I’m feeling pirate attire should be worn more often, as a boy who has never commented on my dress sense came up and said ” you look really nice”…seriously? and he didn’t have an eye patch!

pirate group

Pirate dance instructions were fine, but dad’s thought they were decorating a real FISH as when I was giving out activity instructions I failed to add the key word Fish BISCUIT. Today it is the local highlight of the year Gig on the Green and the sun is shining!

I seem to have made it on to a few other FB pages this morning…thank the lord I wasn’t dressed as a pirate and it was only Sports Day. The unflattering footwear was bad enough.

It’s Sunday. We had such a great time at GOTG yesterday, the sun shone all day and it was hot, hot, hot! Our group of friends, most of who belong to our musical group, all danced freestyle to Uptown Funk, which got everyone on their feet. I have apparently made someone’s day by grooving through their Sunday morning with the video below and she noted ‘impressive moves’, ‘classic whoos’ and a ‘stirling commentary’ from my rather merry husband! The fact that another friend posted a photo of me from a distance saying he was close enough to be entertained, but far away to not be embarrassed when I started dancing, made me wonder about my supposed impressive moves!!

Afterwards we sang some more, danced some more, drank some more Pimms, chattered and ate rubbish! Husband got out his sun protection, army hat and all the ladies bought hippy flowers to wear in their hair.

Hippy ladies

We listened to a mix of tribute bands from Michael Jackson, Frozen, Madonna, Chilli Fighters, Lionel Richie and Coldplay plus some local bands and singers.

Today it is the first time they have had a day two and it is called Unwind. Musical Theatre and big band music…my favourites.

Can’t believe it started to rain but just as the opening singers began to sing the weather brightened up. The afternoon opened with some local friends singing who are in Musical Theatre and we joined in singing with a bit of Joseph with Daniel Boys. The rock choir sang and big band played. When the big band started to play Fosse all the dance group I belong to started to perform the dance we learnt for a show, which was priceless…my brain had forgotten it as nothing is stored once not needed,so it was a very amusing sight!

We listened to Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra tributes and did the kicks to New York, New York. I was shunned when Frank said he was looking for some Las Vegas backing dancers so my friend and I volunteered but were told to sit down as we were not a size six! The best act of the whole weekend was The Jersey Boys tribute band led by Dayle Hodge, a friend of ours, who got everyone up dancing and singing. A fantastic end to the best weekend I’ve had in ages…next year’s GOTG  is already in the diary.

Monday 22nd-Thursday 25th June Inappropriate Puddings!

Morning…there is nothing like going to B & Q and buying a wheelbarrow of stuff and finding when you get to the till that your son has your credit card…Where?…back at home! On the plus side I have finished writing my school reports so that is one long winded job ticked off my list.

Husband (from abroad)- Good work, my son. You have successfully blockaded another ‘wheelbarrow of stuff.’ This is to be commended. On an unrelated note…may I enquire as to the nature of the ‘wheelbarrow of stuff’ you were attempting to purchase?

The stuff (flowers, compost and top soil) managed to be paid for with the cash I thankfully had in my purse, but the wheelbarrow, dirtied by the ‘stuff’ was sadly left at the till, much to the disappointment of the management of B and Q.

It’s Tuesday. Today I will mostly be organising a school musical concert and preparing myself for the bronzed, happy wanderer who is coming back from Menorca! I have just enjoyed a piece of toast with butter, marmite and a large piece of paper, which was found when my ageing teeth struggled to chew…how very tasty!

It’s Wednesday. The concert was a success and  the celebratory drink at a pub afterwards rewarding. The mess and snoring have returned, the flowers I planted in the garden two days ago are disappearing, due to roaming hungry rabbit, and a mosquito has decided my ankle was tasty whilst I was asleep! But we are half way through the week.

bite cream

It’s Thursday. We still have various kitchen appliances in our garden. You know your husband is back when you suggest he goes to the dump and he replies with “I’m glad you suggested that I was just going to” and enters the bathroom!

So last night we were celebrating various school birthdays at the pub. I was very reserved (not!) and emptied my handbag for staff to find it hilarious that I should be carrying a bow tie around. It is not a dress up that I secretly enjoy, but I’d forgotten it was given to me for one of my sons and hadn’t taken it out! I also had a slight issue saying sticky toffee pudding after a couple of Pimms!

Unfortunately although the sticky toffee pudding was delicious, the lady eating it says she can never look at one again in the same way. I can’t help that after a Pimms, it is as if I haven’t put my teeth in and the pudding name came out as a “sticky stiffy pudding”..my colleagues laughed and inappropriate remarks were made.

When a colleagues ice cream arrived looking like this, well hysteria reigned! Surely two scoops of ice cream and a wafer could be made to look more appealing and appropriate!? Or does the problem lie with us?

ice cream frog and wicket

The manager was very diplomatic when we apologised for the hilarity and making so much noise and said we added “atmosphere” and it was nice to see us enjoying ourselves…yep we know how to do that!

Sunday 21st June Moist Suede Boots!

Morning…my weather predictions are rubbish. I decided to walk to a party down the road when it was dry, but the heavens opened mid journey and I was drenched. I did try to take shelter in a bush, then stand under a tree, but it wasn’t really helping, so I gave up and arrived looking soggy and with moist, suede boots stuck to my feet! The party was great and the photo call at the end of the evening by lots of us in our musical society was hilarious. Several photos were taken where the picture seemed blurred or dark. We decided to use a flash on an iPhone and got the best one yet, not a face, body or person recognisable, instead a ghostly, foggy white splodge!

white splodge photo call

We had all drunk a couple of glasses of Pimms or Prosecco, so the photo became hysterical…”that’s the best picture of us yet!” ” I can’t see my hair!” ” I particularly like the lighting in this photo..it is very flattering!” “we do look amazing!” Finally, we took a photo that actually recognised us as people, although I was squashed by a heavy lump and the man sitting on me thought we were lumpy cushions..it didn’t stop him from sitting on us mind!

party photo

In the middle of the night a very kind friend returned my son from the Cabaret that they had being doing in London at a high security army barracks. It was very successful and the party holder was apparently extremely happy with their performance.

abba 15

They were all given a momento to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo which is why singing Abba songs along with traditional patriotic ones was so apt!

Whilst the Cabaret didn’t finish in the middle of the night, the older performers and some parents all went to a party afterwards, which meant they came home very, very late!. Why is that drunk teenagers can’t do quiet? I was woken for the second night running at 4am by loud banging of doors, heavy footsteps, toilet flushing, taps running and no consideration at all for anyone sleeping with the door ajar.

It’s Fathers Day, so Happy Fathers Day to all dads and granddads out there and especially to my dad who is one of the best.

Saturday 20th June Prom Chauffer & The Street Snoop!

Morning…last night I was the Prom Chauffer for my son and his girlfriend. He looked very smart and she looked elegant… some thought they even looked like movie stars! Her dress although second hand, was fantastic and being a very pretty girl with a gorgeous figure she looked stunning in it…If my face and figure had worn the same dress, the look would have been a very different one!

jack and Maisie prom

jack and maisie prom 1

Prom chauffer journey number one was to the pre party at someone’s house, drinking around a swimming pool. Chauffer journey number two was to pick them up from the hotel venue at almost midnight and take one friend to his house to pick up a change of clothes and then bring them all back to our house where they were changing before going clubbing until the early hours. By this time it was close to 12.30am, long past my bedtime but thankfully they had a friend who was driving them to the club where apparently drinks were £2.50, which was very appealing to them, not quite so to me! They drank coffee to get them lively for the next part of the evening. I drank cocoa, put my pyjamas on, safe in the knowledge that my driving was done and my body and head were ready for at least eight hours sleep!

This morning Prom Chauffer is having a well earned lie in. She has to prepare herself for being a Cabaret chauffer later and then partying tonight! It all has to happen when my husband is away and I’m the only driver in the house.

Between Chauffer journey number one and two last night I did finally make it back to my dance class, the first time since the show back in May.My knees were in for a shock and I wasn’t anticipating fingers as well as the usual feet causing me problems. Worryingly I can’t do what another teacher does with reception children as pre writing exercises! I’m going to have to practise hard for the next two years.

I have just caught someone snooping over our fence! Not sure what gossip he thinks he will spot, as our street is quite respectable, but using his look out as a toilet is well out of order. Typical male, not sure he was listening when I tried telling him!

Monday 15th- Friday 19th June A Dodgy Tummy & A Husband’s Gift!

Morning…I have a report writing day and unfortunately a very dodgy tummy, so just as well I’m near my own bathroom…thought to begin with it was because my delicate tummy was reacting to too much fun on Saturday at the college reunion, but after last night I’m not too sure!

It’s Tuesday and dodgy tummy’s are rife at work, so what a relief to know it wasn’t down to alcohol! Delicate tummy now seems to be recovering, tired feet are aching, co fuddled brain is struggling and hot body straining…I must need what is recently missing in my life…alcohol in the sunshine!

It’s Wednesday and although it is the morning I’m wishing it was evening as dodgy tummy was not happy about the ONE glass of bubbly I had, so up all night visiting the bathroom. I also kept tossing and turning which did not help my back. Neither did being close and personal with the smell of Bombay Gin!

bombay gin

He is off to Menorca for a few days filming, so my washing machine sounding tummy and I will have the bed to party in alone. Lets hope those few days will be long enough for it to recover.

It’s Thursday. My husband is not the most domesticated of men but leaving a stack of shorts that don’t fit as ornaments on the bedroom window sill and a pile of discarded clothes scattered around the bedroom was a lovely farewell gift!…who knows which are clean or dirty? Hope he is having fun in the sun whilst I sort, sniff and inspect his clothes!

clothes pile

Friend-OMG sniff?!! you are a brave woman

Me…Indeed…I married my husband!

My replacement sleeping partner is also having fun in the sun…I’m doing something very wrong!

Bailey fun in the sun

It’s Friday. Loving that the sun is shining but wishing it didn’t make my eyes weep. Loving the warm evening and open windows but wishing my body would stay asleep. Loving that it is Friday but wishing I didn’t have reports and a  Prom narration to finish. loving that the bedroom is now so so tidy, but wishing my husband would come back a new man!

Friend- which man would you like him to return?

Me-If only I had a choice, but tidy would be nice!

Friend- A hu..man!

Friday yes!

Last year when my husband went away a special delivery arrived…a new, expensive hose that didn’t kink especially for me apparently…you know you have been married decades when you get that sort of present! Lets hope this year my gift is rather more special.

Friday 12th- Sunday 14th June It’s All About The Green

Morning…thank you for my birthday wishes, cards and presents yesterday…very glad today is Friday after the week I’ve had! Today I will be shouting for GREEN team and hoping it doesn’t rain as it is Sports Day postponed from yesterday, when it was of course sunny. I will then have a possible photo opportunity, when my winning Gig On The Green tickets get handed over, postponed from Wednesday…the big ‘O’ have got a lot to answer for! I’m not sure me in some old trackies and a green t-shirt will look good on the front of the paper or on social media, so need to think carefully about my winning wardrobe as have little time to change!

It’s Saturday. Yesterday it rained, we all got wet, hair got frizzy, a Hamma Bead heart present given to me by a child which I stuck on as a brooch collapsed when soggy, but the races managed to go ahead when the sun came out. Whilst not competitive at all, it was indeed, as the Wedding Singer song goes ‘All About The Green’ who won!

its all about the green 1

Frizzy hair was then tamed for an appearance at Romans estate agent to have my winning Gig On The Green tickets presented inside the shop. We were going to have an outside photo call but would have needed umbrellas, as it was raining again a bit like the GOTG last year…hopefully this year the weather will be kinder! My winning wardrobe ended up being my recently bought black jazz pants,(smarter than my old tatty trackies) with the not so winning converse style shoes (thought my recently purchased silver dance shoes to go with jazz pants would be a bit OTT and not great for running!) but I put a mint green flowery shirt over the top of the green t-shirt to look a little more respectable and less sporty! Husband took one look a the photo and I said I looked like an ageing rock chick…thanks.

Today it is back to college for a reunion.

It’s Sunday. College reunion was so much fun. we ate, we drank and we wandered the ever changing grounds and reminisced. These days it is not about the green, as it is rapidly disappearing and a lot of buildings and parking in its place. We could still find the lake, some wildlife and trees, but the huge green football fields and lawns have sadly long gone.

We failed to find the bar as there was a wedding going on and it was shut, so we took ourselves into Richmond for a drink and a meal at The Cricketers pub. Unfortunately they had some supply chefs on who didn’t seem to know the difference between fish and chicken, so some meals had to be served several times! The lady in charge was apologetic and it didn’t spoil a lovely day.

Today I am off to my parents to celebrate my mum’s birthday.

Wednesday 10th- Thursday 11th June An Ofsted Birthday!

Evening…no sleep last night and Escape To The Country didn’t work it’s magic, so wine and a bath is required this evening to try and knock my body and over thinking brain out! I was in work at 7am this morning, after a quick shop at the 24 hour Tesco. It is what you do when your beach role play needs some swim wear, the children haven’t brought any in and Ofsted decide to call! After purchasing two value swimsuits and trunks I raced to work to get ultra organised for the day. Today was manic and very stressful but then that is what Ofsted does to teachers and schools. My husband found two posters that he thought would be reassuring..

It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’ve shared this news with everyone, as I can’t believe I have the big ‘O’ presence as a gift!

It’s Thursday and I might as well write a morning post as I’m awake with the birds and the school won’t yet be open! Today I will be looking ten years older after no sleep and a visit from the big ‘O’. I will sadly have no birthday wishes from my family, as there is no chance of them being awake before I go and I will probably be tucked up in bed by 8pm as I have a headache already and both body and head hurt! My brain which is already really struggling and working at its maximum hurt so much that I called a child WATERTRAY on a list for another teacher…

photo 5 (17)

he was blue and a bit drippy…I will be grey and passed out by tonight! This brain strain is obviously catching, because the teacher who initially laughed at my mistake proceeded to write two children’s names as ‘frog’ and ‘shell’ when in fact they were the words the children were supposed to be learning to blend!

We had croissants for breakfast in the garden, as we were so organised, Ofsted came and went and we finished the day with a glass of Prosecco in the staff room. As it was my birthday I was then seen walking out of the school building with a half filled uncorked bottle, which hopefully didn’t go noticed. I arrived home and my husband had bought me flowers and more Prosecco to celebrate.

Whilst I complained about the lack of birthday greetings from my family I must remember my birthday last year where 1/3 were awake enough to sing happy Birthday with feeling..

birthday last year!

as you can see it is not convincing!

Sunday 7th- Tuesday 9th June A Toilet Roll Gift!

Morning…spent the afternoon yesterday with my mum at Southampton Hospital and think she will be in for a few days yet, as she is still dehydrated and they won’t start her next bout of chemo until it is sorted. Her rash, ulcers and painful feet are gradually diminishing and she is gradually getting her appetite back, although hospital food is not particularly appetising! She has her own room, but without the view she had the last time. I had to be silenced by my husband for using my rather loud outside voice and laugh in the hospital, so must try and find an inside voice for visiting times!

Somebody during Fiddler on the Roof gave my husband a gift of a piano keys toilet roll, which is currently in use in our toilet. The thought behind the gift was lovely and I’m not an ungrateful soul, but please people use it quick! It is crisp, hard, noisy, difficult to flush and looks as though something unsavoury has happened in our toilet each time it doesn’t flush!

It’s Sunday and someone is quite relaxed..

It’s Monday. Two out of four have left the house and two out of four are still in bed! Rehearsal yesterday in London for son who is in a cabaret. It was happy, calm and amazingly finished early! I only needed one out of the two costumes I took, but my son now has a dodgy Abba costume to wear. We decided that the choreographer who is a wonderful lady but with a tendency to get stressed, must have been on the vodka like one of my son’s friends who was nursing a big hangover! Today it’s Sports Day Practice in the sun..

abba costume 1

It’s Tuesday. I got to lunchtime and unable to open my eyes for over an hour. it wasn’t that I needed a sleep, although a pillow and a duvet would have been nice, but my eyes did not like that we had been practising for Sports Day and the grass was being cut! I have now purchased the allergy relief stock from Boots. Not sure why, but this week is going slowly…

Evening…it’s gone ten and just home…Ofsted called today…what great timing! Thanks for the loveliest birthday present ever for me to look forward to.

Monday June 1st- Saturday June 6th Hanging in there!

Afternoon…It’s Monday and just got home to find I won Yateley Gig On The Green tickets on Facebook! It’s about time something went right…thankfully it means my two sons can now come without me having to pay out more money…result.

GOTG winner

It’s Tuesday. I’m not sleeping easy but need as much shut eye as possible, so my early posts are not happening. This morning my eye sight was suffering after squirting perfume in my eyes and taking a writing pencil out to use as an eye pencil. My feet are suffering, as it is freezing cold in flaming June. My body is now suffering after exhausting home visits for new Reception children starting in September. I can however spend my Tuesday evening safe in the knowledge that I have now claimed my winning GOTG winning tickets online and my ghostly apparition portrayal in Fiddler on the Roof, was according to todays Noda write up, “larger than life” and “made an impact both visually and with my acting”…hurrah!

fiddler dream photo

It’s Wednesday. I have been awake since 5am and Escape to the Country has been watched rather than sending me back to sleep! More home visits today, have woken up coughing and so far listened to four alarm clocks going off, only one is mine and so far no one has got up!

Here is my own Wednesday image..

It’s Thursday. My car is going for its MOT today. The wind screen wiper is fraying and it needs a new battery as light keeps coming on so think it might fail. Day four of home visits and I think I’m in need of an MOT…smiling, happy face is fraying and my battery is flagging…wishing it  was Friday but sadly only Thursday.

hang in there...thursday

It’s Friday. I am being a London Commuter as going on an Excellence in Early Years course. Have even managed to catch an earlier train, buy tea and pastry as no time for breakfast. I’m trying to ignore the niggling headache…Never been to London so early in the morning and the silence and shut eyes on the train was an eerie experience! The course was very good although the room hot with the sun blazing through the windows and a lot of listening was required…the two together along with already niggling headache weren’t a perfect match. The lunch however, an important factor in all day courses was delicious and the view from the top of the building great!

london at courseLondon at course 1

The train home was a very different experience…crowded and noisy. One poor lady opposite had a bandage cover over one eye. As the guard announced where the train was stopping she asked if it stopped at Fleet. I replied “I hope so, as that is where I am going!” There was a little bit of chat during the journey and as we arrived the lady with the bandage asked if I could help her off the train as she couldn’t see. I picked up her bags, which included flowers and helped her towards the door. I asked her if she was coming home from hospital and she explained that she had had two operation on her eye as she had a tumour. The first was to remove the tumour and the second to put in a plate. The lady was Maltese and when I asked her how she was getting home she said “by taxi”. I asked if she had any family around and she said she had a son in Malta who had visited her, but had now returned and she was going to visit him soon. I asked the lady where she lived, but did not know the area otherwise I would have taken her home myself. Instead I took her to the taxi driver and explained her predicament. Her situation played on my mind and I pondered on how a hospital could discharge someone who had no family at home, was leaving on public transport and who couldn’t see..so sad.

Yep by 8pm, I was in bed with my headache and had the energy to party on a Friday night of an old lady!

Its Friday and I'm ready to party

It’s Saturday. I was supposed to be going to visit my mum in Lymington but she is back in hospital after reacting in every way possible to chemo, so we will be visiting her in hospital instead.
